Key Ingredient

Vitamin D3

This is an essential vitamin for the body, especially for promoting calcium absorption and regulating bone health although many other benefits are being evaluated. Unlike other vitamins that are provided only by food, vitamin D is mainly made by our body thanks to the sun. In our food, vitamin D is present in 2 types, D2 or ergocalciferol, coming essentially from vegetal and mushrooms, and D3 or cholecalciferol, from animal sources. Only few foods naturally contain D3 (cod liver oil, fatty fish, eggs, offal, cow's milk, and cheese) and therefore, many foods are enriched with it (milk, cheese, vegetable drinks) during their production. According to recent studies, the main source of vitamin D3 in adults is the exposure of our skin to sunlight. Just as photosynthesis is essential for plants to grow, vitamin D3 comes from the synthesis of a molecule derived from cholesterol present in our epidermis when exposing to the sun's ultraviolet rays. In food supplement, most studies show that D3 is more effective than D2.
