Benefits
  • Used in Herbal Medicine to help relieve restlessness and nervousness (calmative).
  • Helps to promote sleep.
What it does?

Valerian, thanks to valerinic acids, acts on the nervous system, in particular on the level of the neurotransmitter GABA. It would reduce the time to fall asleep and would limit the symptoms associated with stress. GABA can have an inhibiting and calming effect on the brain's synapses, preventing stress signals from reaching them. It thus provides a relaxing and calming effect.

Key Ingredient

Used in phytotherapy since antiquity and even before, valerian, Valeriana officinalis, was already recommended to relieve several ailments including insomnia and nervous contractions. This is certainly why its name comes from the Latin valere, to be strong, to be well.  Many studies have suggested its effectiveness for sleep disorders, agitation and nervousness. The only disadvantage of this herb is the rather unpleasant smell of its dried root, especially in infusion.
