Certain types of food are well recognized for their blood thinning action on circulation. Whether it is garlic, omega-3 (that we find in cold water fish like salmon, mackerel or tuna) or even spices like rosemary, turmeric or cayenne pepper, all of these foods support blood circulation. However, we can’t neglect to strengthen blood vessels walls since they are directly involved in blood flow regulation. In order to do this, foods rich in flavonoids help to maintain the integrity of the vessels walls as well as to prevent the destruction of collagen, so important for the structure itself of the vessels walls. Furthermore, since muscles need an important blood supply to get enough oxygen and nutrients, this stimulates blood circulation to its maximum. That is to say that, walking, running, biking or swimming are among the most interesting exercises to help prevent circulatory problems.


Keep a healthy body weight to facilitate arterial blood circulation and venous blood return. Perform regular exercises to maintain a healthy heart. To prevent blood clot formation, avoid red meats and other foods rich in saturated fats and cholesterol.
